Commitment to a Foundation of Inclusivity
The BFA Music Theatre Program is committed to moving beyond words into actions that create an environment associated with inclusion, the program that is anti-racist and anti-oppressive, and a curriculum whose foundation is grounded in methodologies that embrace a global perspective for training the next generation of Music Theater performers, artists, and entrepreneurs.
In examining our participation in upholding the structure of white supremacy, the faculty plus staff in the Music Theatre program acknowledge the pain our complicity may have caused and are dedicating time and resources to dismantling the particular structures that will have upheld racism, patriarchy, and other forms of exclusion, recognizing that the objectives of many of our educational institutions were founded on maintaining supremacy over minds, bodies, laws/policies, and basic truths.
We begin this work, first, by outlining goals with regard to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Access for all. This includes professional development for our instructors, curricular innovation, collaboration with outside experts within Radical Inclusivity, and a commitment in order to embrace plus demonstrate mutual respect regarding every student. We then move beyond this into the practice associated with daily anti-racist, anti-oppressive activities recognizing that the work is not finite.
The Music Theatre faculty and staff recognize that will our goal of centering the most marginalized among us empowers the whole of us. Elon Music Theatre is committed to broadening our idea associated with what musical theatre will be and can be. With a reputation for excellence in training and an eye toward the future of the industry, WE ARE ELON MUSIC THEATRE.
